Starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo & Amy Adams.
Not to be cliche, the film was a knockout. Based on a true story, this film did what few films have been able to do for me: made me cry. The writers/directors did a phenomenal job of putting the heart wrenching emotions surrounding the tumultuous rise to glory of blue-collar boxer, Micky Ward on screen. With so much more depth than “Rocky”, “The Fighter” made me feel like I was right there alongside Micky as he struggled through family and physical set backs in his career. It brought you with the family through their lowest, despairing moments, then victoriously redeemed everything with such precise drama, you’ll be jumping off your couch cheering for Micky to “go, go, go!”. The film is rated “R” mostly for language, which is littered incredibly frequently throughout the film and for one love scene, which was easy to skip over. I’m hesitant to recommend R movies normally, but this TRUE story was just so incredible I have to give it two thumbs up. Or maybe two boxing gloves up.
